Defiance Police Officers Assn., I.U.P.A. Local #166 Members Lieutenant Timothy Monhollen and Patrolman Jacob Vorce were awarded the Life Saving Award Ribbon!
Defiance Police Department shared about it on social media, “The City of Defiance Police Department is proud to celebrate the heroism of Lieutenant Timothy Monhollen and Patrolman Jacob Vorce, both of whom were awarded the Life Saving Award Ribbon on October 24, 2025!”
They continued, “Their exemplary actions took place on June 26th, 2025, when they responded to a disturbance and encountered an emotionally unstable individual who was armed with two large kitchen knives and expressing a clear intent to die by provoking officers to use deadly force. The individual pointed the knives at officers and repeatedly demanded they ‘shoot him in the head’.”
They continued, “Recognizing the gravity of the volatile situation, Lt. Monhollen displayed professional control and led with clear, calm instruction. With this authorization, Ptl. Vorce precisely and effectively deployed his Taser, striking the individual in the abdomen and thigh. This non-lethal force caused the individual to drop the knives, enabling officers to secure the suspect and prevent what could have been a fatal encounter.”
They closed with, “The actions of both Lt. Monhollen and Ptl. Vorce undoubtedly prevented a suicide-by-cop situation, preserving the life of the suspect and ensuring the safety of all on the scene. Their restraint and commitment to preserving life exemplify the highest standards of law enforcement. Join us in congratulating these officers for their courage and professionalism!”
