Law Enforcement Training for LEOs and Members of the Community

I.U.P.A. Local Prince William County Police Association, #5010 Members participated in a series of training opportunities for staff and the community of Prince William County!

EXPLORER ACADEMY

I.U.P.A. Local Prince William County Police Association, #5010, VA Members taught classes at the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy. Prince William County Police Department posted on social media, “EXPLORER ACADEMY: Explorer Academy Week was a fantastic experience at the #PWCPD Criminal Justice Academy from June 17-21! Our Explorers immersed themselves in hands-on learning, including @Virginia State Police distracted driving course and insights into their Motor Carrier and Auto Theft Programs. Representatives from Virginia Department of Transportation also joined us to share valuable information. Highlights of the week included: driving track day, decision-making scenarios and control tactics, first aid training and the obstacle course challenge.  It was a week packed with learning and growth for our future leaders! JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY

I.U.P.A. Local Prince William County Police Association, #5010, VA Members taught elementary school children about police work. Prince William County Police Department posted on social media, “JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY: #PWCPD held its Junior Police Academy at Colgan HS with 75 attendants from Minnieville ES, Kibly ES, and Ellis ES. The students got an inside look at our police department and enjoyed lunches donated by several community partners. We would like to thank the coordination of Prince William County Public Schools and businesses like Chick-fil-a of Lake Ridge, Mission BBQ, Texas Roadhouse, and Brittany’s in Lake Ridge for providing lunches for our kids! Multiple police units showcased their expertise and the Sheriff’s Prince William County Sheriff’s Office provided child ID’s and snow cones!”

COMMUNITY POLICE ACADEMY

I.U.P.A. Local Prince William County Police Association, #5010, VA Members taught classes once a week for eight weeks to adults in the community. Prince William County Police Department posted on social media, “Applause for our recent graduates of the Community Police Academy.  Participants met one night a week for the past eight weeks for classroom and hands-on instruction. Topics included: Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Tactical Operations, Crime Scene Management, Professional Standards, and Special Operations. They were also given the opportunity to ride a shift with a patrol officer and be familiarized with police equipment including firearms. CIT GRADUATION

I.U.P.A. Local Prince William County Police Association, #5010, VA Members took classes to improve their knowledge about incidents individuals who might be having a mental health crisis. Prince William County Police Department posted on social media, “CIT GRADUATION: Congratulations to our most recent Greater Prince William #Crisis Intervention Team graduates! They participated in an intensive 40-hour training program, which teaches #communication skills and tactics to safely de-escalate incidents involving persons who may be in a #MentalHealth or intellectual disability crisis. Since its inception in 2012, the GPWCIT program has provided training to hundreds of law enforcement members. Congratulations graduates!”
