Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs Law Enforcement Associates, I.U.P.A. Local #27 Member Deputy Krebs used his expert navigational skills to effectuate a marine rescue!
I.U.P.A. Local #27 shared a San Juan Island EMS post about it on social media, “We are proud of our San Juan members. Great job Deputy Krebs!” The post they shared from San Juan Island EMS stated, “San Juan Island EMS would like to formally commend Deputy Ron Krebs for his exceptional skill, professionalism, and composure during a challenging marine rescue in early August near Camp Nor’Wester on Johns Island.”
They continued, “Sometime in the afternoon of August 3, 2025, a young woman suffered a fall while navigating the rocky shoreline in a difficult and remote location. Dispatch sent San Juan Island EMS on the Sheriff’s boat to perform a rescue. The terrain, combined with challenging sea conditions and a shifting tide, made access by watercraft especially hazardous and technically demanding.”
They continued, “Despite these obstacles, Deputy Krebs—serving as boat captain—skillfully navigated the vessel through the shallows and up to the rocks, demonstrating not only outstanding seamanship but also calm judgment under pressure. He was able to maintain the boat’s position with minimal movement while the EMS crew, led by Captain Koons, safely packaged the patient for transport.”
They continued, “Deputy Krebs’ ability to hold a steady position in dynamic conditions ensured the safety of the first responders on scene and significantly expedited the rescue operation. Without his efforts, reaching and evacuating the patient would have been extremely time-consuming, potentially requiring mutual aid from the mainland and increasing the risk to all involved.”
They closed with, “Thanks to his decisive actions, the patient received prompt care, and a complex rescue was completed efficiently and safely. Deputy Krebs’ actions reflect the highest standards of professionalism and public service. He is a credit to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office. Thank you, Deputy Krebs!”
