Terre Haute, I.U.P.A. Local #133 Members recently taught elementary and middle school kids about Internet safety.
Terre Haute Police Department posted about the occasion on social media, “Detectives from the THPD Juvenile Unit collaborated with the Vigo School’s Coordinated Health Program to teach Internet Safety at University Connections today to incoming 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.”
They continued, “To start the conversation with your kids check out the resources at https://www.missingkids.org/netsmartz/home. #StartTheConversation #InternetSafety #InternetSafetyMonth”
The event was held toward the conclusion of June, which is Internet Safety Month. CISA, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, a component of the United States Department of Homeland Security responsible for cybersecurity and infrastructure protection, discusses National Internet Safety Month in their blog, “The U.S. Senate first designated June as National Internet Safety Month in 2005, primarily to raise awareness of internet dangers and highlight the need for education about online safety, especially among young people. In the years since then, with the rise of smartphones, social media and other new technologies, the amount of time people spend online has grown enormously—as have the risks.”
They continued, “Yet, as data from numerous studies show, the nation needs more education and training about the risks we face online and how to stay safe when using connected devices. Most of the time, cyberattacks occur due to poor cyber hygiene…the basics.” To read more of the article and about the four simple things you can do to practice good cyber hygiene, visit https://www.cisa.gov/news-events/news/national-internet-safety-month-june-take-4-easy-steps-stay-safe-online
