Lakewood Police Union, I.U.P.A. Local #303 Members participated in the Kart Racing for Heroes event, an event created by an organization dedicated to combatting the stress facing veterans and first responders.

Lakewood Police Department posted about it on social media, “How about Team Lakewood taking 1st place in the Kart Racing for Heroes event? The event was established in honor of Senior Airman Kristopher Mansfield, who was killed by an impaired driver shortly after surviving a tour of duty in Iraq. The nonprofit organization was created to combat the stress facing returning veterans, police, firemen, and first responders. Thank you for having us!”

Kart Racing for Heroes website stated, “Racing go-karts was an event Mr. Mansfield shared with his son and, after his devastating loss, racing was the one thing that could help clear his mind and relieve stress.  Mr. Mansfield created the annual ‘KART RACING FOR HEROES’ events in an effort to combat the stress facing returning veterans, police, firemen, and first responders and to thank them for the jobs that they do. These ‘Heroes’ are introduced to karting as a means of reducing stress without the use of alcohol and drugs.” You can read more at https://kartracingforheroes.org/history
