Los Alamos Police Safety Town

I.U.P.A. Local Los Alamos Police Association, #14 Members participated in the annual Safety Town event for kindergarteners.

Los Alamos County Police Department posted about it:

  • On June 10, “Today the Los Alamos Police Department kicked off Safety Town at Barranca Elementary for incoming kindergartners. Students checked in and got to learn about Outdoor Safety, Animal Safety, Water Safety, and they got their helmets to begin their introduction to riding bikes in Safety Town.
  • On June 12, “Get ready for some excitement! Yesterday on Day 2 of Safety Town, the students had a blast learning about Fire Safety and how to call Dispatch in an emergency. To top it all off, they even got to ride their bikes for the first time in Safety Town! Los Alamos County Fire Department, thank you for helping teach our youth.”
  • On June 13, “Students had a blast on Day 3 of Safety Town yesterday! They explored the world of bus safety and mastered the art of crossing roads with confidence. The excitement continued as they practiced hand signals while riding in Safety Town!”

  • On June 14, “Day 4 at Safety Town has come to an end and we are excited for the graduation ceremony this afternoon! Today, the students had an amazing opportunity to explore the various roles of Police Officers and the fascinating tools they use. They were introduced to Jaskey, our incredible Police K9, and even had the chance to hop into Bearcat, the vehicle used by the Tactical Team. Additionally, they learned about the crucial importance of Gun Safety, while Chief Sgambellone captivated them with a book on safety.  To conclude the day, the students honed their bike riding skills at Safety Town, ensuring they are well-prepared for any future adventures on two wheels.”
  • On June 17, “Safety Town Graduation on June 14th was a hit! Parents got to come in and see their children sing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Traffic Light’, ‘Stop, Look, and Listen’, and ‘I’m a Police Officer’. Students watched a slide show showcasing their week at Safety Town and received their Certificates. We would like extend a big thank you to our sponsors, Century Bank, who donated the helmets for the students and Remaxx First- Kristy Ortega who donated the new bikes utilized in Safety Town.
