I.U.P.A. Local Toledo Police Patrolman’s Assn., #10 Member Patrol Officer Austin Bly was awarded the State of Ohio Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year Award as well as the Northwest Ohio Safety Council Hero Award. The International Union of Police Associations also recognized him for his service and these extraordinary achievements with a certificate and letter. I.U.P.A. Local Toledo Police Patrolman’s Assn., #10 President Michael Haynes and Vice President Greg Zattau presented Patrol Officer Austin Bly with the letter and certificate from the International.
In the letter, President Cabral wrote, “I write to you today as President of the International Union of Police Associations to commend you on your well-earned State of Ohio Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year Award as well as your Northwest Ohio Safety Council Hero Award. You were chosen out of 5,000 Airmen throughout the State of Ohio. Your service as Technical Sergeant to the 180th Fighter Wing and as Patrol Officer for the Toledo Police Department set you apart for these awards and special recognition.”
President Cabral continued, “As a Patrol Officer, you performed CPR on an unresponsive person until their pulse was regained. You also served as a Toledo police representative on a nationally televised series, ‘On Patrol: Live’ and as a key ambassador between the police department and the community, increasing citizen awareness of crime prevention and crime-related issues.”
He continued, “As a Technical Sergeant, you took charge of the Unit Deployment Manager training program, where your detailed lesson plans provided Unit Deployment Managers real-world training and led to a 15% task force certification increase. You completed many missions that transported critical personnel and cargo; served as the Deployment Control Center NCOIC for the 180 MDG TDY to Okinawa, Japan in support of the Comprehensive Medical Readiness Program; and many more missions that are too numerous to list.”
President Cabral closed his letter, “On behalf of the whole of the I.U.P.A., you have our thanks and commendation for your exemplary service. You are a true hero and a reminder of why officers put on their uniforms each and every day.”
